BASIC HAZARDOUS WASTE OPERATIONS
Individuals whose work may take them into contact with areas involving or containing hazardous waste
materials or who may respond to hazardous materials spills or incidents.

HAZWOPER LEVEL III TECHNICIAN
Individuals whose work requires their presence at sites involving or containing hazardous waste materials.

HAZWOPER SUPERVISOR TRAINING
Mandatory training for supervisors at hazardous waste operations; supervisors involved in direct
supervision of personnel onsite at hazardous waste operations must have completed the 40-hour basic
and the 24-hour course to be qualified to supervise.

HAZWOPER ANNUAL REFRESHER
Meets the annual re-certification requirement for Hazardous Waste workers and supervisors.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENTS
Oriented to public safety officials who might be expected to respond to an emergency situation involving
public or environmental safety and health.

FIELD INSTRUMENTATION
Fundamental instruction in the calibration, use, and maintenance of instrumentation.

ENTRY TO CONFINED SPACES
Meets the requirement of the State of Alaska Department of Labor Petroleum Code as well as 29 CFR
1910.146 Final Rule. Includes entry authorization and supervision, dealing with unauthorized personnel,
inside and outside rescue teams, required entry permits, attendants, minor maintenance work, entry into
certain diked areas, respiratory protection and respiratory fit-test, personal protective clothing and
equipment, gas detection and monitoring, ventilation, first aid considerations, and work and isolation
techniques for vessels.

HAZARDOUS COMMUNICATION
Mandatory training requirements for hazard communication in the workplace.

HAZARDOUS PAINTING CERTIFICATION
Mandatory State Department of Labor certification training for painters and supervisors using hazardous
painting materials as well as painters falling into certain DOL mandated categories.

HAZARDOUS PAINTING RE-CERTIFICATION
Designed to re-train and re-certify painters under AS 18.63.010.-100. A review of changes in state and/or
federal regulations, painting practices, procedures, personal protection, and engineering controls will be
discussed.

HYDROGEN SULFIDE SAFETY & RESPONSE
Covers the physical and chemical aspects of Hydrogen Sulfide, toxicity of Hydrogen Sulfide and Sulfur
Dioxide, respiratory protection and respiratory fit-testing, gas detection and monitoring, first aid and
Hydrogen Sulfide rescue, warnings, signals, safe-briefing (assembly) areas, and procedures during
Hydrogen Sulfide release.

INDUSTRIAL TOXICOLOGY
Intended for health and safety professionals, supervisors, governmental authorities, and others with an
interest in industrial aspects of toxicology in the workplace.

JOB SAFETY ANALYSIS
Introduces the use of the Job Safety Analysis Procedure (JSA) for supervisors and safety professionals.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
Intended for those responsible for respiratory protection programs.

RESPIRATORY FIT-TESTING
Discussion of protection factors and their measurement, field fit-testing.

RIG ORIENTATION
Meets the needs of oil and gas drilling employees, supervisors and related employees. Specific aspects
of health and safety are covered such as hydrogen sulfide safety training, hazard communication,
respiratory protection, entry to confined space, fire prevention and suppression, materials handling, vessel
isolation, first aid, back injuries, lockout-tagout, noise, eye and face protection, spill prevention, and other
aspects of drilling safety.

INCIPENT STAGE
Introduction to flammable liquid fire suppression techniques as well as a refresher for more experienced
employees.

FIRE BRIGADE TEAM MEMBER
Firefighting appliances including 20 pound and 350 pound dry chemical units, one and a half and two and
a half hose lines, monitors, firefighting foam, and CO2 and Halon extinguishers on a variety of flammable
liquid fires.

FIRE BRIGADE INSTRUCTOR
This program leads to examination and certification as an Industrial Fire Brigade Instructor.

FIRE WATCH
Fire Watch: (Hot Work, Welding, Cutting and Brazing)
Fire watch is responsible for preparing the workplace for hot work, maintaining guard for incipient fires
during the work, safely operating the fire extinguisher in case of need and monitoring the workplace after
the hot work is suspended to insure against fires arising from the hot work.

MAN WATCH
Attendant is responsible for monitoring the condition of the workplace and the constant monitoring of the
entrants during any ECS work. The Attendant conducts gas monitoring, ventilation, and communicates
constantly with the persons working inside the space. This training emphasizes the importance and
gravity of the Attendant's role during ECS work.

DRILLING AND BLASTING
This course is intended for inexperienced prospective underground and surface miners.

NEWLY EMPLOYED, INEXPERIENCE UNDERGROUND MINER
MAPTS offers the initial 32 hours of the underground program.

NEWLY EMPLOYED, INEXPERIENCE SURFACE MINER
The initial 16 hours of the 24 hour surface program is offered under a training plan approved by MSHA

FIRST AID TRAINING
This MSHA approved first aid course prepares the miner to deal with first responder type injuries.

MSHA COOPERATIVE INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
Designed to acquaint the student with the MSHA Part 48 training requirements.

As a division of UAA's College of Career and Vocational Education, MAPTS has a wealth of adult training
experience with instructors averaging over 20 years of experience.

MSHA MINE ELECTRICITY REVIEW
Reviews MSHA electrical regulations as they apply to surface and underground metal and non-metal
mines.

MSHA MINE VENTILATION
Covers the principles and practices, reviews ventilation requirements, basic design of ventilation
schemes, and measurement of ventilation parameters.

NIPPER TRAINING
The four-week program provides instruction on; - working safely underground - understanding the language
of the underground - maintaining your personal gear - "How to Read the Ground", bar down and bolt up -
operate a jackleg drill - "Get out a round" and the mining cycle - operate an underground loader - hang
pipe and work underground utilities - operate and overshot mucking machine - and frill blast holes.

MINE UTILITY WORKER TRAINING
Five (5) week course is intended for students wishing to begin work at an under-ground metal/non-metal
mine.

FUNDAMENTALS OF OIL SPILL RESPONSE
This course is designed to provide an effective understanding of oil spill response.

OIL SPILL RESPONSE FOR SUPERVISORS
Designed to assist the supervisor in understanding contingency plans, organizing response elements and
teams, conduction spill drills, notification requirements, record keeping and reporting, spill recovery and
containment equipment options.

OIL SPILL CONTAINMENT AND RECOVERY
A hands-on course designed to train personnel in the containment and recovery of small to medium spills
with available materials and equipment.

OIL SPILL RESPONSE TECHNOLOGY
Designed for those who supervise oil spill response operations or have a need for more and in-depth
training.

MARINE OIL SPILL RESPONSE
Devoted exclusively to spill response in a marine environment including shorelines.

OIL SPILL RESPONSE TO LAND-BASED SPILLS
Devoted exclusively to spill response to land-base spills of petroleum products.

OIL SPILL RESPONSE IN AN ICE ENVIRONMENT
This class assumes an adequate background in spill response in other environments.

HELICOPTER ABANDONMENT AND DITCHING SURVIVAL
This course is intended for persons who use helicopter transportation, particularly over water. Covers
general helicopter safe operating rules, personal flotation and protective devices, helicopter abandonment,
life rafts, survival coats and suits, helicopter rescue baskets, hoisting procedures, general seamanship,
and land and sea survival practices.

BEAR AVOIDANCE AND FIREARMS HANDLING
For personal that will be working in areas where the possibility of bear attack exists.

ALASKA OUTDOOR SURVIVAL
The course is designed to cover work related as well as recreational outdoor safety and survival under
Alaskan climatic conditions.

ARCTIC LAND-BASED SURVIVAL
For personnel who will be working or traveling in Arctic regions. The course can be structured on an
8/16/24/40-hour basis depending upon client needs and expectations. Covers such basics as food and
shelter, wildlife, navigation, signaling, and communication, fire building, survival preparation, clothing, and
first aid.
